Vietnam ’65 is an unusual turn based strategy, taking place in the realities of the war in Vietnam. The concept of the game was still in 1985 and over the years has been polished by its author, Johan Nagel to finally see the light of day in October of 2013. Described the game is polished, commercial version of the prototype, developed under the guidance of experts from the company Slitherine Strategies.
The story takes us back to 1965 in the middle of the Vietnamese jungle. It was there that the US government sends a powerful support military action to prevent North Vietnamese Viet Cong troops, seeking to unify the southern regions of the country under the banner of communism. Our ambition was putting real realities of war, which in addition to conventional military methods, also played out in people’s minds, deep in the hearts and minds of people.
The gameplay mechanics Vietnam ’65 does not differ significantly from his contemporaries, multiplatform turn-based strategy. The player’s task is to protect the land, located in the Ia Drang Valley region, near the border of Vietnam with Cambodia. The originality of the game lies in the fact that, in contrast with the typical genre production our goal is not to break the enemy troops, but the prevention measures taken by them civilians. Developed by Johan Nagel mechanics „hearts and minds” determines our victory gaining the favor of the local community and to protect it from the influence of surrender Viet Cong. In practice, rather than an open exchange of fire, it means missions to combat actions of the enemy, whose main objective is the life and safety of residents of villages located in the area of military operations.
Relatively simple graphic design of the game is at a decent level, and its main objective is to ensure smooth and trouble-free, cross-paltformowej gameplay holders of PCs and mobile devices. The game can take place only in the single-player mode, but each time the campaign map is generated at random, which translates into a completely different gameplay experience every time you approach the game.
